Ever wonder what makes elite athletes and performers so amazing to watch? Ever experience great teamwork? Or have something work really well for you? I am willing to bet you could feel it. You felt fluid.

It is always the fluid play that makes the highlight reel of any sport, it is the fluidity that makes it worth watching. Anyone who has been part of something amazing can attest to the fluidity of it. This is really what it is about for me, fluid everything, life, operations, relationships, experiences…

I have always thought the beauty of fluidity is in the tension. What is it that is causing the greatest threat to fluidity? It is always some kind of tension. When it is in a muscle for example, I know I need to strengthen or stretch a muscle. Then I can ask that muscle for more. When it is in an idea, what has to be overcome to make that idea reality is where the tension is. The ideas that are meaningful for you are the ones to explore tension, to turn tension into something bigger.

Tension is always present, both good and difficult. Good ideas, objectives and goals, dreams all want to become real. Conflict, grief, loss and poor results all amplify tensions. When the tension is recognized and energy put into it, the result is fluidity.

A ballet dancer exemplifies this in my mind. They look effortlessly fluid. The effortlessness is from a lot of work, it is not easy, dancers have worked to become strong to make standing on the tips of their toes possible. What do they do next with this strength? They expand, they are able to add grace while standing in an unnatural position.

Fluidity happens everywhere. I remember 20 years ago watching rough necks make a connection with tongs. I was struck by how smooth they were, so in time, how fluid their teamwork was. I remember the vibrancy of these guys, almost giddy in the knowing they were working at a high frequency. When you are fluid, you know it, love it, vibrate it and want more. I believe people seek these moments. If you have felt this, you know what I am talking about.

This is where the fluid vision began:

Expanding vision • Strengthening capabilities.

Coaching to me is really about co-creating fluidity. What we make fluid is up to you, I am her to support you make it happen.
